Description
Eagle Crag and Sergeant Crag are two of the least-known, yet also two of the most imposing fells in the Lake District. Rising above Langstrath, they command the access from Borrowdale and the north of the District to three important passes; Greenup Edge (to Grasmere), Stake Pass (to Great Langdale), and, via Angle Tarn, Esk Hause (to Eskdale and Wasdale).
This painting of them, in an autumnal glow of evening sun, shows them overlooking Langstrath Beck, currently a haunt of wild swimmers. Martcrag Moor and Thunacar Knott, at the back of the Langdale Pikes, appear in the far distance.
